About us
Habit is a monthly underground house night based in Newcastle, UK.
Established in 2004 by friends Danny Pattison and Scott Udberg, Habit continues to bring some of the world's finest house DJ's to the city.
Past guests include luminares such as Tom Middleton, Ben Watt, James Holden, Ame, Funk D'Void, Lee Burridge, Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, Ewan Pearson, and many more.
Essentially, Habit tries to provide a monthly alternative to what is out there at the moment; a friendly intimate club environment offering quality house music without boundaries.
After a few venue changes over the years, including hosting the first club event at The Sage Gateshead, Habit is now firmly established at the excellent Cosmic Ballroom venue in Chinatown. The venue sums up the whole ethos of what Habit and clubbing should be; a small, intimate, dark and industrial main room with a great sound system, coupled with the opposing qualities of the upstairs Boudoir which plays host to a contrasting music policy of soul, funk, disco, boogie and that anything else goes attitude.
Habit is the first Friday of every month. Hope to see you there soon.

Resident's profile
Scott Udberg
It is rumoured that Scott has been playing records for coming close to 10 years. However amongst co promoting and residency at his much loved club night ‘Habit’ that 10 years has seen a few breaks here and there. Being recalled to the armed forces for 6 months for reasons we still don’t know and still can’t get him to talk about. Also the 2 seasons he spent on the Bering Sea fishing for Alaskan King and Opilio Crab. Many people are unaware that Scott was actually in the first series of the Discovery Channels programme ‘Deadliest Catch’. As well as a regular feature at Habit and sporadic appearances further a field he has been found holed up at nighteries such as Shindig (Newcastle), King Unique’s Curfew Time night at Turnmills in London and recently for Funk D’voids deep house Sunday soiree in Barcelona. Also a budding chef Scott reached the quarter finals of the UK’s Master Chef programme in 2004, he has always maintained “Lloyd Grossman’s head isn’t as big as I thought it would be”…
Mark Johnson
After attending one of Newcastle’s longest running club nights Arcane at the tender age of 16, Mark has been hooked into this dance music malarkey ever since. Soon after his introduction to dance music he obtained his first pair of decks and has never looked back. When he was old enough he could be found week in week out at Newcastle’s premier house night Shindig, underground techno night Reverb as well as Bugged Out at Nation in Liverpool each and every month. Over the past 10 years Mark has built up a record collection that spans house, techno, breaks, progressive, tech-house and down tempo grooves. It’s only over the past 4 years however that Mark has gone from playing to himself, his friends and his cat to actually playing to anyone that cares. 2004 saw his friends set up the club night Habit and him being asked to become resident; he also made guest appearances at Arcane and warmed up for Fatboy Slim on his Palookavile album tour. The last 2 years have seen him warm up for artists such as Lee Burridge, Kenny Hawkes, Ame, Simon Baker, Omid 16B and Ewan Pearson.
Si Quick
It was at University, armed with a nice present from the government in the shape of a student loan, that Si bought his first set of turntables and a load of Daft Punk, Armand Van Helden remixes and Chicago house records. Not having a clue what to do and no mentor, he quickly mastered the art of "banging it in during the break down". Unfortunately none of the metal fans / 40 year old Nigerians in his halls of residence were really into this. So, when he left Uni he started hanging around with more like-minded souls who were into the underground house sounds of Derrick Carter, Sasha, Tenaglia and Digweed. Over the next few years, Si was given opportunities to take his skills out of bedroom, gaining a residency at Habit and making appearances at the Ministry of Sound and Public Life in London. With the continued rise of the Internet, Si has been able to increase the scope of music he listens to and this has brought him to his current position of digging everything from deep house to techno to disco. His residency at Habit has seen him play alongside personal heroes such as James Holden and Tom Middleton.
